In conjunction with World Mental Health Day, here we look at the relaxing and rejuvenating potential of CBD
A Quartz survey conducted earlier this year discovered that 50 percent of US adults who have tried CBD did so in an attempt to relieve themselves from stress or anxiety.

Our endocannabinoid system has receptors all over the body, including the brain. Those in the brain play a role in regulating mood, emotional behaviour and stress responsivity.
These receptors are triggered by cannabinoids, such as CBD, and researchers have demonstrated numerous positive effects.
The Depression Alliance explain on their website:
“While CBD does not cure the condition, it has been linked to improvement of the symptoms.
“These substances exert their actions by binding to specific points of brain cells called the receptors through which they potentiate the actions of a substance called serotonin, which acts to improve mood and reduce stress levels”
When CBD binds to the receptors, cell-stimulating processes are triggered that can improve mood and stress control, giving CBD the potential to become part of mental health treatment therapy.
Studies of interest on World Mental Health Day
One study that used rats found that CBD could disrupt specific and generalised fear memories, making the subjects less anxious when experiencing similar fears under the influence of CBD.
A CBD trial on anxious adults found within the first month of taking CBD, 79% had reduced anxiety scores.
Another that focused on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), found that 91 percent of patients experienced a decrease in the severity of their PTSD symptoms when CBD was administered.
