5 Surprising Facts About CBD

There is a lot to learn about CBD, from little-known plant facts to the conditions it could help with.

Here are some of the more surprising facts about CBD

1. CBD shows potential for treating COVID-19 symptoms

A recent study suggest that CBD could help those suffering from severe lung inflammation which can be a symptom of the disease.

Researchers from Augusta University in Georgia noted that the cannabinoid appeared to reduce some acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by an overactive inflammatory response in mice.

This COVID-1 symptom is referred to as a ‘cytokine storm.’

However, it’s important to note that research is in its infancy and there is no MHRA or FDA-approved CBD treatment for coronavirus.

2. CBD is non-addictive

CBD itself is not addictive, nor does it cause a high, according to a World Health Organization report.

The organisation stated:

“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential

To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

Meanwhile, studies have shown that CBD could block the addictive effects of morphine or painkillers, which could help ease the ongoing opioid crisis.

CBD has been found to counteract the side effects of THC such as anxiety, paranoia and memory impairment.

In a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, rats that were given THC exhibited anxiety about new environments as well as social interaction problems.

However, rats that were given CBD and THC together did not show any of these signs.

4. Hemp has been used for thousands of years

One of the more interesting facts about CBD is actually about the plant it derives from.

The first records of medical hemp use date from about 2700 B.C.

The seeds and oils have been used for more than 10,000 years to make paper, clothing, rope, food, medicine and shoes.

In more recent years, hemp has been used to make plastic and as a bioaccumulator to clean up toxic soil.

5. CBD oils and tinctures are different

CBD oil uses an oil carrier or base, such as hemp seed oil or MCT oil.

CBD tincture uses alcohol as a base, but both have the same therapeutic properties.

CBD oil can have a hemp taste which tends to divide opinion among consumers.
